Built To Last: Metal Storage Sheds
Many homeowners, gardeners and farmers oftentimes just need a shed that they can put up quickly to provide basic storage. But sometimes you may need to put up a structure that is more durable and permanent. For that you need to choose metal storage sheds.
Metal storage sheds are your best choice if you want to erect a structure that will withstand years and years of use and outdoor weather punishment. Cheaper sheds are often too lightweight, and can blow over when the winds are fierce -- not so with metal storage sheds, which are much heavier.
An additional advantage of metal storage sheds is that bugs like termites, wasps and beetles cannot infest the metal as they would a wood shed. And small animals cannot chew their way through the walls of metal storage sheds as they can with the wooden variety.
Metal Storage Sheds: Some Do's And Don'ts Metal storage sheds can be prone to rust and corrosion. For this reason, I would recommend that you buy one that is made out of aluminum. At the very least, if you must buy a steel metal storage shed, make sure that it is galvanized steel, to provide proper rust protection. One thing you must do is to avoid metal storage sheds that are made from very thin metal. Thin metal storage sheds have several disadvantages. First of all, thinner walls are more easily dented - particularly if you are moving equipment in and out of them often. Metal storage sheds constructed with walls that are too thin can be broken into very easily. And when the roofs of metal storage sheds are too thin, you must take care to clean them off if too much snow and ice accumulates - the weight of the snow and ice can cause the roof to cave in! Another issue with metal storage sheds is that they can become unbearably hot in the summertime. The sun, beating down on the roof will turn metal storage sheds into a literal oven. If you plan on keeping flammable materials - such as gasoline, propane, solvents, paints - in a metal storage shed, you must take care to keep it out of the sun. Sometimes it is possible to place a shed near a larger structure (such as your home, or a barn) that will give some shade. If you can buy a storage shed that is constructed out with a 'wavy' or corrugated design, so much the better. This type of molding imparts great strength to the metal. As well, if your shed is a bit on the lighter side, you can use brackets to attach the base of the shed directly to your concrete floor, to anchor it securely.
